Hello All,

Geothermal yes or no has been answered with 'yes'

We are in the southern part of Alberta.

So we are in the final planning stages.

I found a well knowledge driller with 30 years experience that will drill for $12.50 per foot, 1" loops installed, pressure tested (3x) and grouted. Headers are extra.

So, my proposed 2 x 4 wells (house and workshop separated) with total of 3,200' will come in at ~CAD40,000.

The whole system ~ 75,000. We will do the prep. & horizontal excavation & back-fill.

Now my question: would it make sense to install thermocouple on one loop on the down & up site every 100' and drill a 3-4" well between two wells with the same sensing wire installed to monitor the temperature over time?

One additional point: we will install 2 evacuated tube solar collectors to a) heat our pool and b) feed energy back into the geothermal wells (house) when we have extra energy to re-charge the system during the summer (we have no moving aquifer).

Zen Data loggers can do this easily with PT1000's, but the cost is around $6000 (hole, conduit, thermocouple, wire etc.) if I wire this myself.

WOULD THIS MAKE SENSE?

Monitor is good but just need to do the water temp....being that you don't have much AC usage in your area the loops wont get heated up as much as those south of you...But yes if you have excess solar you can heat it. What is your ground water temp. I am in lower Michigan and it is 50 F

I am told 46 - 48 at 400'. We will know once we have wells established. Nobody close by has any geothermal.
