We are installing our ledger today and had problems installing the screws.  we predrilled the lvl  tried driving in the bolts supplied by simpson but you cant suck the ledger in,  once it grabs into the icfvl it spins out.  I am a little worried I have got a 1700 sqft 2.5 inch concrete floor sitting on top of these things and 8 bolts that arent even holding properly.  Its almost like the threads are too fine.  Any suggestions..

Are you trying to pull the ledger up to an existing concrete wall or to the ICF empty forms? Are you using lag bolts or bolts with a nut and washer? I can not picture what you are tryiing to do.

Did you predrill all the way through both the ledger & ICFVL? If so, are you sure you're using the correct size drill and not one too large, or too small? The hole in the connector needs to be just large enough to allow the screw to start but no so large that the screw doesn't cut metal. If its too small and you don't push the screw hard enough you'll just spin the screw tip on the metal.

I had the same problem as you discribe with my construction. I simply used a impact style 18 vdc Dewalt driver and slowed down the rotation as the screws came to the end of there travel. I call it sneaking up on the end.The LVL I used did not have any irregularities to it and were not anything other than straighter than an arrow. I am not sure if your walls are the cause of the problem or not. However it really did take a gentle touch and I did get really disappointed at the amount of care required for the cost of the steal products. Hind sight 20/20 I would probably go to a straight pour and use red heads for anchoring the ledgers. 

We got it! We slowed down the 18v impact and it sucked it right in, The hard impact must of been ripping the tin. THanks for your guys suggestions. Now on to the main floor...

Good, because I noticed that speed is an issue using these.

I also predrill the LVLs, but not the in-wall bracket. The screws are designed to do that, and a light pressure approach works well. I also have had good luck not only with an impact driver, but also a low speed 1/2" variable speed drill....just remember as noted above to back off as you approach the suck up stage, or the drill will simply torque your arm off :-)

A simple way to install these is to insert one screw into each wall bracket to establish your level plane, then have someone run the LVL holes out while someone follows with the TEKs, pretty fast all in all! The unloaded LVL will stay in place with one screw per bracket while you finish the installation!

Use Anchor Bolts and install the legder before you pour, I found it saves time and money and also helps hold the top of the wall extremely straight
