Having read the article "Pellets are taking off in Europe and starting to encroach elsewhere" located wood products I was deeply impressed with the popularuty of wood pellets. Are there some serious pellet heating systems for block of houses?

I did the math a couple months ago. Compared to oil you would have to get the pellets at less than 9 cents per pound to break even. Given the rise in fuel cost it might be 10 or 11 cents now. I think the savings are marginal at best. Now if you have a stove that takes wood chips you can get that for 2-3 cents per pound at your local nursery and they deliver for $50-60 per load.

the more these take off the higher their prices will go as well, i would rather burn oil than burn wood at any rate considerign trees are our most important overlooked resource to maintaining the world ecosystem.

burning wood can be a good way to get cheap heat if you have free access to woodland. there is always plenty of dead trees that will just rot if not burned. it is not any cheaper though if you have to buy wood, pellets, corn ect. a good air source heat pump will always be your cheapest way to heat unless you live in an extreme climate area.
