I have a 30+ year old Peerless gas boiler that heats water for the baseboards in a 2000 sq ft house. I am thinking about replacing it and wanted some opinions from this community about some innovative possibilities for replacement. I live in Anchorage, Alaska in a 1973 2x4 framed house on a half acre lot. What are the new and cool options out there?

Here is something I considered before choosing to go with a ground source heat pump:  http://www.freewatt.com/

Hope it helps.
