I have dismantled a 20x40 antique barn and i am going rebuild the barn on my property and make it a three bed and two bath addition. I want to keep the 2nd story floor system as thin as possible but i want the floor system stable. There will be a 14' span and it will be my master bedroom and bath. I was wondering if there is any floor systems that you could recommend?

Detrich is thin, so make sure that your utilities can fit in a thin platform.  If you need 6" duct work or need to run a 3" toilet pipe very far, it can be tight in an 8" steel joist.  Also, be sure to exceed code minimum.  Most people don't like the bouncy feeling that code can allow.  Depending on your area, going to 12" oc, same depth, might only be 4 or 5 more joists and make a huge difference in the sturdiness of the floor.
