We recently built a model home at our design center on Tenney Mountain Highway in Plymouth and last weekend received the first Build Green NH Gold certification from the National Associaton of Homebuilders. We are awaiting our LEED Platinum certification from USGBC. We found the key elements for maximum energy efficiency were ICF foundation, Icynene insulation in the walls (with strapping between the studs and sheetrock (to minimize thermal pass through from the studs) and cellulose blown in over the first floor ceiling. Because we do hybrid modular construction (some factory some site finishes) we blew the Icynene from the outside in, which allowed it to fill the cavities between the strapping. We achieved a .10 blower door test rating, showing how tight the home is. Careful attention was made to caulk all gaps. For those interested in this type of construction we invite you to visit our design center or log on to yourabodehome.com We are also looking for student interns interested in green building and advanced building systems.

Congrats Jack! I have a couple of questions:
  • 1st floor ceiling: Is this a two story structure?
  • Did you use a 'caulk' or a 'sealant'? In either case what was the brand?
Thanks!
....jc<br>If you're not building with OSB SIPS(or ICF's), why are you building?
