I live on the Tibetan plateau and I am trying to find a localy-sold, ecologicaly sound, yet hopefuly insulating and cheap flooring to put in my home. My ecologicaly-sound choices seem to be bamboo or tile with rugs on top. A tile floor would be cheaper, but, if bamboo has insulating qualities, I might want to go with that. Do any of you know if bamboo, like wood, tends to have some insulating properties?

It is my understanind that bamboo has some insulative qualities but like wood, they are not enormous.  Furthermore, often bamboo flooring is very thin and thus would have less insulative quality than a thicker peice of wood of say, maple.  If your heat distribution warms the floor I would go with tile because it retains heat better than wood.
