i have seen lots of examples where an ERV is integrated with hvac unit by piping return air thru it and adding the fresh air back to the return downstream from where you are exhausting.  my question is what controller(s) will integrate the two pieces of equipment so that the ERV can energize the hvac fan and when necessary?

the only controllers i have seen do not integrate the two.

thanks for any help!

rburditt;

I have not seen any that integrate them for residential use, they are made for commercial use by Johnson  , but not affordable for home use

ERVs can work off a direct switch, percentage timer or humidity sensor

if they are not integrated then is it ok to run when the hvac is not running?  i even thought about the honeywell controller that controls a damper for make up air...i wondered if it could be used to energize the ERV instead of the motorized damper it is intended for??

I know my Carrier Infinity controller is capable of controlling not only the HVAC and humidifier, but also an ERV/HRV if I want to add it in the future.

I read up on that controller and it will work provided ducts are properly sized, if ducts are undersized or oversized it will give false readings to the controller
