I'm currently prepped to begin construction on my foundation which is going to be monolithic slab on grade. I'd originally planned a full basement (icf) and was going to cap it and continue with the first and second floor walls in the spring of 2011 but plans have changed.
As much as I'd like to start in the spring with the foundation already completed, I'm concerned that the slab on grade may not over-winter well without the house mass above it to protect from frost penetration.
I'm in the Adirondacks of Northern New York where winter is typically well below freezing and not uncommonly below zero. Should I re-work my plans to begin the foundation in the spring or should I not be concerned about the slab over-wintering? Thanks
