and was pretty happy with the results..

So, I was lucky enough to get free tickets to the Packers/Lions game Sunday (!)  The high temp Sunday was around 50, and it got down to the low 30's Sunday night.  I decided Sunday morning before we left (around 10am) that I should turn off the furnace so I could see how much of a drop in temp we had with the furnace off all day.

When we got home, I was happy to see that the temp had actually gone up, to 72 (lots of windows on the south side, with a fairly high solar heat gain).  It had gone up about 4 degrees.

Somehow, even though I looked at the thermostat to see that, it didn't occur to me to turn the furnace back on.  I got up this morning & noticed that it seemed a little cool in the house.  When I checked it, I realized that the furnace had been off since Sunday morning, & it was down to 67.

Granted, it's not THAT cold right now, but it seems that we're picking up enough heat during the day & holding on to it, that we don't really notice when the furnace is off.

Sounds like your insulation package is paying off on the comfort end, eh?

Report back around half-past January or so after some real heat load (and billling) is behind you!

so far!  And I mean this sincerely, I wouldn't have gotten there without the help from everyone on this board.

I definitely plan to post once I have some meaningful numbers this winter.  I've been meaning to post some pics of the house, too, but I haven't gotten there yet...

Awesome to hear!
I built my home with the help of Pierson-Gibbs Homes, "The Hands on House". They build the shell, you finish it.

ThIs can be a real good time to take it out for a test drive - leave the furnace off for an extended sunny time and a rainy spell and at vairious outdoor temps and see how it performs. It'll probably still suprise you. I've dealt with well insulated (not super insulated) empty houses during winter power outages and I know it'll take days for the house to freeze when it's over 10o. I'm not suggesting you wait til it gets to 35o to turn the furnace on, but checking out the performance of these houses is always fun & interesting.

Great to hear this! It's definitely paying off already.
Designs shouldn't just be aesthetically pleasing, but also environmentally friendly.
