What are some ways that a traditional pool can be modified to save energy. Besides adding a solar cover to heat the water are there any easy fixes to save money on a pool? Since most water return lines are located near the top of the pool is there something that can be done here to create energy from that water flow source.

Energy savings are usually possible by studying the performance curve of the pool pump. The pump must be large enough to overcome the feet of head and still deliver the flowrate necessary for proper filtration. Reducing pump run time to achieve a clean pool i s the best way to reduce energy consumption .

Insulate the walls, perhaps using ICFs. IMO, ideal would be a clear cover during the day and a thicker insulating cover at night.
