Im 46 and wont be retiring any time soon, but have a bit of cash in hand and the market seems pretty good.  I dont care what my home looks like.  Im tired of keeping up with the Joneses, painting, shingling, cleaning my gutters, lawn care and paying big energy costs.   But I dont want to live in the middle of nowhere.  I like my community and neighbors, but my home just doesn't cut it and taxes are high in this college town.. Especially after my daughter heads out on her own.   I like grass roofs, earth-ships, renewable energy the idea of growing and raising my own food.

Are there communities or areas which fit my needs?

Thanks

How about Taos, NM or Ridgeway, CO? Minuses are short growing seasons. Plusses are existing communities of like minded people already living the way you describe.
