Brad,

The extensive and very obvious identical ads posted in the various forums I referred to were removed immediately after my request.  Only the Administrator has the ability to delete a posting by others.  Earlier, the Administrator was absent for some time.  Now he is back on the job.  I do not consider mentioning a product in a posting as an ad.  But long, identical ads just adds to the clutter.

Ohh, in the threads. I too appreciate the use of names of products and services, but some are to the extreme.

Alton - I'm totally with you on that one.
If you have the time, maybe approach admin. and offer your help as co-admin.?
I have no problem with someone mentioning their product, c/w data to solve a problem that has be mentioned in a thread. Some of the other crap, hey shut it down. the same with so call "green" that has no real bearing on the thread.
You might even consider the president of one icf manufacturer as suspect. There is certainly times when he bring very good info to the thread but other times I would say "hey buy an ad"
Just my thoughts.

I think most of us would prefer not having to wade through SPAM to make sure we did not miss some interesting product or experience that could benefit us on our next build.  I think spam is a waste of bandwidth and memory.  I am so turned off by spam that I would not buy their product or service nor recommend them.  Our only way to handle spam on this forum is asking the administrator to remove it.

I do appreciate the mentioning of products and services related to this forum. I also appreciate posting links to their website because I specialize in new products and technologies.  But I do not need two to three screens about a product or service that is not related to this forum posted in every sub-forum.  Postings about products and services not related to this forum is spam to me.

Alton,
There is a little "Alert" button at the top of each post.

If you see a post that you believe is spam, click that button and mark the post as spam, or off-topic, then submit.  This gets sent to the moderator.  Every time I do this the posts are subsequently deleted.  I'm sure if the moderator sees enough of these from the same poster that their account and IP address will be blocked.

Alan,

I have been reading this forum for years and I did not stop to think about the Alert button.  Thanks.  That eliminates the need to write a message to the administrator.
