I recently had a customer that wanted to use green glue to attach MagBoard sheathing to steel joists. Certainly glad we just put down 2 sheets to test. As "green Glue" is not an adhesive! and according to their tech support cannot be used as such. Furthermore the glue was eating of the galvanized coating right down to raw steel.

It always pays to read the instructions. It's clearly stated in all instructions that mechanical fasteners need to be used. Aditionally, damping materials on the edge of a stud or joist does nothing, also as outlined in (at least our) installation instructions.

How do these things happen??

Ted....... it does and it was, but according to Green Glue tech support it is not an adhesive, nor should it come in contact with steel We always use Polyurethane adhiseve and mechanical fasteners on our floor systems, at the request of the owner we used Green Glue instead of the adhesive , anything with the name "Glue" implies adhesion of some sort, but green glue does not have those properties. It does have the consistency of congealed snot
