it's heat recovery effectiveness is not really good
It may be something about the addition of the HEPA filtration which makes it difficult for them to get certified as an HRV. Your model is technically an air exchange unit. But, the good news is that there are newer units that have HEPA filtration as well as more efficient heat exchange. There is a THH1.0 unit from Venmar that would technically work for your house, but you would probably lose the luxury of recirculating the larger volume. Venmar has a larger HEPA3.2 model as does Broan with it's GSHH3K, but as you already noted, there may be some (small) changes necessitated in the ducting or venting with those. Have you asked your HVAC guy about this issue?
