I've been quoted per square foot and then hourly rates of around $95 per hour. With square footage rates, it is a known price and cannot vary, for instance a 3,000 square foot home @$1.00 per sqft would be $3k to engineer. The per hour rate makes me leery because who knows how many hours they might claim it takes?

For a 2-story residential home (3,000 sqft) with ICF walls and InsulDeck floors, how many hours would such a home take to engineer? More than 20 hours?

I've also gotten engineering quotes going all over the board. From .70 cents per square foot, all the way to $2.00 per square foot, and everything in between.

As with construction quotes, they can be all over the place. Sometimes people think you have money pouring out of your ears and quote the sky. Unfortunately for me and for them, I am not Bill Gates.

You might ck with your lumber company. Around here, the larger ones have structural engineers on staff and will do allot of the work for free if you purchase the lumber from them.

I'm building the home out of concrete/ICF.

Between $1 and $2/square foot depending on complexity. The flat rate is a fair plan, but it also helps to know what their hourly rate is in case you have any additional changes to make.

I knew you were building ICF, but you will need a good bit of lumber for the inside walls and for the roof. Wouldn't hurt to ask them.
