Hey Gang, Building a new house in MA with 10" of cellulose in the wall. Here in MA we're quite uptight about fireblocking / firefoaming / firecaulking, etc. But that's between floors. Recently a fellow carpenter told me we will need to fireblock between bays vertically every 4 feet. I can't find this in the code, but then there's lots of things I cant find in the code but which are in fact there. Does anyone know anything about this? I would very much enjoy not doing this.

Go ask your local approving official. Their interpretation of the current code is most likley going to be the final word anyway...

Don't know what the code says in your area but if you install the sheathing vertically then you shouldn't need any more blocking unless you want it to stiffen walls. Just make sure the top of sheathing hits mid way on the rim board between floors.

Happy New Years
