Hello All,
I've been preparing for about four years for a complete renovation of a 1926 bungalow in Central NY (you could consider it in a Utica, NY climate - ~7500 to 8000 HDD per year).
I'm close to finalizing all of the structural architectural plans, with that work to proceed in the spring of this year to get to building dry-in for the summer, followed by ~1 year of interior work (we will be taking a "go slow" approach). I want to do many of the air-sealing details myself, and some of the interior work, and closely supervise one trade at a time to ensure that I get the result that I want.
A little background about myself - my family has been involved in construction for my entire life and built and lived in four houses (one that we did a substantial amount of work on ourselves, over weekends) before I was 18. I'm an avid reader of all things residential construction related (JLC, Fine Homebuilding, etc.) and am technically savvy (engineering degree). This will be the home my wife and I spend our last 25+ years together (hopefully).
I'll have a variety of questions as the building proceeds and I'll post updates here of the construction progress with links to any specific posts that contain detailed questions.
I'm looking forward to a supportive green building community and getting a lot of great advice along the way. Thanks in advance. |
