Hello. I'm am looking for some guidance on insulating the duct work in my attic. I am in western nc mountains and it can be a rather humid environment. I have r8 flex ducts feeding the vents. My plan after some reading is to spray the ducts with closed cell, and then add blow in insulation. Right now I just have r30 batts. My concern is that alot of the ducts are laying on the insulation. So would i just spray them in place? It concerns me that the bottom would not be sealed and may condensate. But trying to lift them and spray the bottom seems difficult and may hurt the spray foam unless suspended until dry. My other concern is the added weight on the ducting. There are a few spots where they run over bracing and are already slightly squished or deformed, plus my main trunk is 18" above the attic floor. None of the flex duct has any support or strapping, and I dont want the added weight of the spray foam deforming the ducting anymore. In fact some extra support on the flex duct should probably be added anyway. I am unsure how much deformation should be allowable. I would appreciate any advice with these concerns.
