I could use some advice between a Trane XV18 2 zone system vs a Mitsubishi H2i 2 head mini split ducted and which is better for de humidification.  I know the trane can drop down to 25-30 percent load for long slow cycles to reduce humidity. I see that the outdoor Mitsubishi heatpump is also VS, but how well does that modulate with the multiple air handlers? Specifically, assuming a 3ton Mitsubishi H2i compressor is feeding a 1ton and a 2ton air handlers, how slow can each air handler go? the floor for the outdoor unit is around 20ish % I think. Can the 2ton handler drop to 33% and the 1ton to 66% to match the bottom speed of the outdoor unit when only one zone is calling or are they full on/full off single stage? I tried asking the saleman, but he kinda brushed off the question.

Thank you very much for advice in advance.

Good questions, wish I could answer them definitively.

You sound like you know what you are doing. Long run time helps dehumidify.

I think you are worrying to much about dehumidification and should worry more about overall system efficiency but I don't know your reasons. Is the house overly humid or are you in a humid area?

Is this an existing house or a new build. What is your target humidity and where are you located?

If you are going with a very tight house and R25+ insulation you should consider a dedicated dehumidifier to control humidity. I've paid for an environmental study for my ICF home and was told that the AC will not run enough to control humidity.
