I was wondering if there would any performance hit to a passive solar design with an original concrete slab (radiant heated), that than will have a 1/4" self-leveling concrete overlay applied (about 6000psi hardness factor) with a PAP (poliaspartic poliureatane) sealer?
I have an existing 1600sq foot floor that needs to get re-colored and instead of doing a polished concrete I'd like to do an overlay. I'm just not sure if this will degrade performance of the passive solar design?
Thanks,
Ryan

Neither the overlay nor the sealer will measurably affect the heat transfer or thermal mass of the slab.
The color of the finish may slightly affect the solar gain aspects, but it would probably only be measurable in a lab if it's any color darker than titanium-white.

With passive solar systems, a home generally needs a southern orientation in order to take full advantage of sunlight in an area. Windows are positioned in the home in such a way that they let in the maximum amount of light and heat. Using windows and doors that are designed to prevent heat from escaping will mean that the home can be kept quite warm and that heating and lighting bills can be reduced.
