Hi. I'm building a solar home in northern Alberta. I'm planning on having a couple HMI panels in my home to display battery and charging information. While waiting for the weather to improve I've been experimenting with my PLC (Modicon 221) which only has Serial modbus connection, no TCP. I've got an Insight home module I'm trying to connect with but am unable to pull any data from the insight unit using the RS-485. I also cannot find detected modbus devices in the device page. Is RS-485 enabled for the insight home? Also is the insight home the modbus master device? I've also tried unsuccessfully to poll the System control panel which is connected to the insight home unit through the xanbus interface.

I use a Schneider PLC to merge 5 Ecobee's but no HMI and tried a AB PLC for home automation back in the day before home automation is what it is now.

The only company I know of that might be able to do RS 485 is Victron. They have some communication to Zigbee and USB that might help....

I don't have personal knowledge of Modicon 221 PLC, but we have used the Micro850 PLCs for many years. Newer model Micro850 PLCs support both RS-232 and RS-485 communications.
