i always see simulated sunlight tests at best at worse theoretical tests. i am thinking standing seam with the stick on solar, either CIGS or the thin silicon but if they are about the same cost as racking if they are actually more efficent in off angle light.
does anyone know of some one actually tests panels .. as i 10x10 of panel A .. 10x10 panel B ... 10x10 panel C .. etc etc etc. in the same place at the same time on same optimal (roof)angle for install and measure the output dawn til dusk perhaps over several days to get overcast(no power) dapled sun passing clouds ... mm maybe even a 10x10 solar tracker for comparison ...
wait you know where i can get like a 50,000$ grant to do this?

thanks if anyone knows this info or thanks for stopping by :)

Homepower Magazine is a good source for rigorous product comparisons

I'm not saying it's not a good test, but the inverters can have a more dramatic impact on production numbers than various same-wattage panels...  Site annual weather conditions also makes a big difference as well.

In your example of the overcast skies, it's not the panels that are not producing power, but it's the string that is not hitting the minimum voltage required to start the inverter up.  In our case, in Southern Ontario, where quite often we get cloudy skies or hazy skies, I've seen some site tests here that an "optimized inverter" can make as much as 75% increase in total annualized power output from a "standard" (i.e. one of the big brand names) inverter.

FWIW.
