Wondering on the math about using a windmill to store water in a elevated tank - storing kinetic energy. Then using that water to drive a small turbine to generate electricity. Controlling water flow with a flow control valve

I had a piece of land with about 250' of height difference, and I looked into such a system to make use of extra solar photovoltaic energy that I was generating. My calculations were showing that you needed a pond rather than a tank to generate any significant amount of energy. That is, you need a lot more volume of water than you could store in a tank. You could certainly do it as a science experiment.

See http://www.tva.gov/sites/raccoonmt.htm     TVA uses electricity instead of windmills to store water on top of a mountain.
