We recently relocated to Florida and I've been astounded by the cost of electricity from JEA. Our energy bill is easily double what it was in the Midwest. This has the wife and I thinking of going to solar.
Right now our peak usage was 3,000kWh in June. Our overall average for the year is somewhere between 1,800-2,000kWh. We do live in a two story home with two high efficiency heat pumps. We also both work from home which means that while we have smart thermostats they don't see much use as we're constantly home during the day.
I made a quick call to a company who quoted me $60,000 for a system before even discussing my usage needs with me. I do not believe this included a battery system of any kind as well. This seemed astoundingly high to me but that may be due to my inexperience with purchasing such systems.
While I have the $60K if I had to spend it I would much rather throw that into the mortgage and re-amortize the loan.
Is $60K what I should expect for a system capable of producing 2,000kWh's? Is there any reason not to lease the panels?
