Does anyone have any real world experience with Thermaproof Window. There specs are great U-factor 0.09 but does anyone know how expensive they are and what the fit and finish is like. Also I'm doing a home is Sullivan County, NY and are they easy to get there? See the specs here http://www.thermaproof.com/html/numbers.html

.09 is their TOP OF THE LINE window and are quite expensive. Their standard lines ar R5 (.2 - vinyl) and R7 (.14 - fiberglass) and are more in line with conventional window pricing, but out-perform many of the well know brands on the market.

Heard they are just bought a window/door company back East that had recently shut its door and laid off all of its employees and are re-opening shop.

My research tells me they are a great product, great numbers confirmed by NFRC, great warranty (Life on everything!).  2 downsides are very high cost,( double one canadian triple glaze for my schedule with only slightly worse performance!), and no listing of air infiltration numbers- which could really cancel out the U value.

I am building a small house in the near future. It will have about 200 sq ft of glass. The windows I will use have a u-value of .17 and an air infiltration rating of .01 per sq ft. I did a comparison of this super window on buildit solar with the window I will be using and found that even if I heat with electric at $.155 per kwh I would save $130 per year. Big deal . My windows and sliding glass door will cost about $4000. Their window rating for the Serious window includes the insulated frame not just the glass.

Can you give me more details? What brand windows are you using that are "u-value of .17 and an air infiltration rating of .01 per sq ft." for $4,000 - and do you know how much similar Thermaproof windows would have cost.

*note, this is a response to my last post, not the most recent post*

Inline Fiberglass - very close performance to the Serious 725, better price. (I did not price Inline's top of the line.  Also Accurate Dorwin - slightly better performance and third party air infiltration ratings than Inline, but waiting for a price from them.   If you want the best performance though, it looks as if the 925 and 1125 of Serious are the best.  For me, I plan on heating for free with my own wood and solar hot water, and have lots of 'natural conditioning' designed into my home to stay cool in summer.  If I were designing a passive solar home with AC or fossil fuel heat, or lived farther south, (I hate summer), then I would personally get the Serious Windows.

Where are you getting the third party air infiltration rating from?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Bruce

New to the site, but might have info you are looking for.

http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/residential/business/manufacturers/search/windows-search.cfm?attr=4

It's the Canadian government site for energy efficiency. It only has models that are sold in Canada.

Yes, excellent site that does have the information.  Now to find a independent third party site that has the infiltration values for USA windows.

Thanks,

Bruce

The structural and air infiltration ratings I found were from CSA I believe, I have the link saved on another computer, let me know if those above don't give you what you need.  I could only find Accurate Dorwin there (as far as Canadian triple pane fiberglass companies).

I work for Energy Smart Company in Omaha, Nebraska and we are a Serious Windows dealer.  We recently installed our first order for the 700 series.  We have priced the windows versus competing brands such as Pella, Andersen, and Marvin and it prices out competitively when comparing similar frames (fiberglass).  I am a big fan of the 900 series because the marginal cost of upgrading from the 700 series to the 900 series is small but the marginal benefit is quite good.  The 1100 series is prohibitievely expensive.  It prices out over double the cost of the 700 series, primarily due to its Xenon gas fill.  Serious Windows use krypton and xenon gas fills because they are heavier gases which prevent conduction.  If you ever need a quote for Series Windows give Energy Smart Company a call at 402-505-5428.
