Hi,

I am old to the forum but new to the other areas available so please be gentle.  When you install a new flanged window I have seen a membrane looking stuff that comes in a roll applied over the flange to add sealing against water and air prior to the siding being applied.  Anyone know what it is called, or pros and cons before I head off to the supply house and ask for "you know that stuff they put on window flanges".  Thanx in advance

Thanx,
Commonly refered to as storm flashing or jam flashing.  Found plenty of how to's on the web with pictures.

Generically called peel-and-stick window flashing. Most brands are a self-adhered rubberized asphalt flashing material.

The local Lowes carries Grace Vycor Plus in various widths.

Update to the project. I left Lowes with a roll of product called seal-tite jamb flashing. Seems very durable, it is very sticky. The first strip folded back on its self like saran wrap, OMG. Knowing that the rest of the install went off with out a hitch!

Watch out what it is made with, there can be compatibility issues with asphalt based membranes, best to stick with butyl or a systems approach like osi winteq.

never even thought about the comatibility, how ever the stuff I used was definately not asphalt based.
