So I'm giving replacing my windows myself a shot, but I'm buying the windows from an installation company in case it turns out I need assistance (seems many reputable installers won't install windows they don't sell :/ ). I'm probably paying a little extra by going this route, but I'm kinda new to the DIY game and if I need assistance I don't want to find a handyman from craigslist to help me out for liability reasons. Probably a long shot asking this, but has anyone ever done business with these guys in the Northern Virginia area? http://www.qualitywindowanddoorinc....-virginia/ They have a pretty extensive selection of windows: http://www.qualitywindowanddoorinc....ufacturers Does anyone have any suggestions? Are any of their brands more environmentally friendly than others (or just environmentally friendly period) or should I look for another company? Any help is appreciated! I'm not really looking for super cheap, but ultra premium windows are probably out of my price range. Sorry if the links don't work, they kept giving me errors in the preview. I played around with them for a while and they kept giving me page load errors. If they don't work you can just search for Quality Window and Door and look at their brands on their website.

that's probably a good approach. the particular window brand may depend on your budget & type of window - clad, wood, vinyl etc. One concern you should look into is windows installation methods - which have been changing so that new, better, tighter ways are becoming more common, but by no means universal. I'd want to know exactly how they weatherseal the window opening before and after they put the window in, how they tape it, etc - perhaps they have a video or a brochure showing their methods? not a question they get very often from their customers I bet.
