Per a phone call 4/15/15 from Fibertec, they have expressed concerns that my original posting unfairly places them in a negative light. To avoid the potential option of Fibertec taking legal action for perceived damages, I am temporarily removing this post so that I can discuss Fibertec's concerns with them and substantiate my claims in greater detail for their awareness. Once completed (shortly) I will repost my thread with any potential corrections. In providing this feedback in this thread my sole intent is to educate others about my personal experiences in dealing with Fibertec in an objective and accurate manner. My original posting had that intent. I will update as necessary should any inconsistencies be found but without losing the objectivity of what I consider to be an overall negative personal experience. Just as individuals are free to post positive experiences, so also should individuals be able to post negative experiences provided they are objective and correct.

Thanks for the info.....likely wont be using them.

May I ask what your second choice would have been?

Sure.

I required triple pane with specific SHGC and U-Factor ratings, so if you're needs aren't quite as strict you will have more options / better pricing. This was my short list, and reasons for not choosing them (at the time):

1) Accurate Dorwin: Excellent reputation, high recommendation from my energy consultant who helped in the house design and used them on his house (and I have great trust in his recommendations). Initial customer service contacts were very professional and timely. Uptick in price from my Fibertec selection was 17%
2) Duxton: Window performance numbers were very good as well, only an additional 9-10% uptick in price. Couldn't find many reviews / recommendations at the time but there were no other red flags.
3) Serious Alpen: I was really excited to have them on my short list as they are made in the USA and right here in Colorado close to me (I tried to buy from USA companies as much as possible in the construction). Contact rep was very helpful and responsive and the performance numbers were also good. However for a similar package (triple pane) they were over 35% more and I just couldn't fit that into my budget

Hope that helps

Thanks great info. Building this summer in lower Michigan. The internet is a great resource to drive product improvement.

Would much rather be building in Colorado.....ski and boarded there for the last 12 years....great place.

Glad to be of help. I was actually born and raised in Ohio, so I spent some time in your neck of the woods as well. Really enjoyed the sand dunes at Silver Lake and the whole of the upper peninsula.

Best of luck in your project

Ouch that's ugly, sorry to hear.

Hopefully you don't have a sealed unit failure...

They should be referred to as Fiberwreck instead of Fibertec.

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4  4/1/2022 This is no April Fool's Day posting.

In 2010, I set about building this due south facing, passive solar home and homestead, near Woodville, Nova Scotia.  To that end, I contracted with Fibertec Window & Door MFG in Concord, ON. There were 33 windows and 3 doors, which were glass lite exterior units using their fibreglass construction.  They were all triple glazed, hard E coat thermal units at extra cost.

The original order in 2010 $$, was over $33,700. Those funds were part of my divorce winnings for a new start, in a new province.

To date there has been a 100% failure on the East, West and south faces with new developments in seal failures on the North side of this home each year, now. 31 units of the 38 supplied have had seal failures.  That’s an 81% house window seal failure!

The company’s 15- year warrantee position is a sham.  They only allow two years on labour, which, means that a customer must pay for installation, shipping and crating to get the replacement lites installed.  In my case, using Speedy Glass locally, that total is over $12,000. I’m retired and live on a small pension.

I have now dealt with 7 different staff people over the years at this firm.  A high staff turnover implies poor resource management of company personnel.  I’m told by the owner’s wife [Sylvia Knafo, assumption, same last name] that Fibertec is not responsible for seal failure form that time period because those glass units were not made “in-house” and since that supplier went bankrupt, I must foot the bill.  What an unconscionable tactic to use on a senior! The last contact was a personal letter sent a month ago to the General Manager a Mr. Zion Knafo who has chosen not to respond as of the Fool’s Day posting.

What we are dealing with here is a serious ethical situation.

To sum up, if you are building new, or renovating, avoid this company like the plague…or pandemic.
