4/1/2022 This is no April Fool's Day posting.
In 2010, I set about building this due
south facing, passive solar home and homestead, near Woodville, Nova Scotia. To that end, I contracted with Fibertec
Window & Door MFG in Concord,
ON. There were 33 windows and 3
doors, which were glass lite exterior units using their fibreglass
construction. They were all triple
glazed, hard E coat thermal units at extra cost.
The original order in 2010 $$, was over
$33,700. Those funds were part of my divorce winnings for a new start, in a new
province.
To date there has been a 100% failure on
the East, West and south faces with new developments in seal failures on the
North side of this home each year, now. 31 units of the 38 supplied have had
seal failures. That’s an 81% house window
seal failure!
The company’s 15- year warrantee position
is a sham. They only allow two years on
labour, which, means that a customer must pay for installation, shipping and
crating to get the replacement lites installed.
In my case, using Speedy Glass locally, that total is over $12,000. I’m
retired and live on a small pension.
I have now dealt with 7 different staff
people over the years at this firm. A
high staff turnover implies poor resource management of company personnel. I’m told by the owner’s wife [Sylvia Knafo, assumption,
same last name] that Fibertec is not responsible for seal failure form that
time period because those glass units were not made “in-house” and since that
supplier went bankrupt, I must foot the bill.
What an unconscionable tactic to use on a senior! The last contact was a
personal letter sent a month ago to the General Manager a Mr. Zion Knafo who
has chosen not to respond as of the Fool’s Day posting.
What we are
dealing with here is a serious ethical situation.
To sum up, if you are building new, or
renovating, avoid this company like the plague…or pandemic.
