Of course, the reality of farming in general (at least here in Western Canada) is that the middle man is the one who makes all the profit. I can sell an old 1400 pound cow for about $.40 a pound right now. Now go look at the cost of hamburger (generally on ly the lowest grade meats) in your grocery store.
I support the idea of any farming operations (privately owned, anyway), as we all need food to live. But the fact of the matter is, the middle man will always find a way to make more money off of food. If Vertical Farming became a regular practice, "farmers" might end up getting a tiny bit more for produce, but the middle man would tell you he has a 300% increase because of added handling costs and whatnot.
Sometimes I'm tempted to just move to town, grow my own garden with food for myself, and let all the goverment officials and middle men feed themselves. |
