Hey guys, I'm running a young construction company. Sometimes we had faced some unique problems that require a solution, and we had approached several firms offering services from project management to construction planning and problem-solving. Likewise, currently, we need some kind of service for our new project. Now we are in the preconstruction phase. As you all know, like in most construction field, a vast majority of our construction workers experience injuries while on the construction site. So I'm thinking to connect with any experienced safety consulting engineers in Ontario to ensure that our design and procedures are efficient and safe. I found various firms providing construction services for the successful completion of construction projects. So what I would like to know from the experts here is, what are the things to be checked before hiring a safety consultant? Does hiring a safety consultant would be an asset to our construction team? Please feel free to share your thoughts!

I am in industry so some what similar. We currently are using a PFMEA process. Research PFMEA. We have used that process and molded it into safety.

So we use three criteria. 1. Severity Potential 2. Probability of getting Hurt 3. Frequency of Exposure 4. # of Effected People..... We have charts to quantify each of these Criteria and when multiplied gives us one number that if the number is greater then 50 we have to put extra controls in place to make sure people are safe.

It is a very quick and simple process once you understand it.

When the number is over 50 we use other process like check sheets and instructions for each job being performed.
