We have a farm/commercial building about to go up. The smaller mechanical building is being built now. Because 3 phase power is not available in the area, an generator will be set, and it is intended that the waste heat from that generator be further used to run through the radiant floor system in both buildings. This idea was nearly terminated because the mechanical building is 100ft from the main building. However, I feel it is worth the effort, but we need to figure out how to move the heat to the main building. All the piping will go under a rock driveway, and will be in the same trench with air lines, water, electric, etc. Energy loss through the piping may be a moot issue as there will be substantial heat, and likely more than is needed. Would you guys just throw uninsulated pex in the trench? If insulation is recommended, What can we use? I need something that can handle direct bury. I would estimate we will move about 120F water in that trench. Sound temp will be about 50F in winter at this depth.

Did a quick search for "wood boiler insulated pex"

I know there are many others.

Running generator 24/7 is very expensive….look into a solar system that will pay for itself. Generator will make lots of waste heat like you are saying.
