Looking for feedback on overall performance and durability for ge appliances.
Building a new dwelling and have the oppurtunity for good rebates on these.
Water is fine don't even need softener or anything. They have been around for long time, just making sure I'm not buying scrap metal !!

I'm not sold on GE! Our 30 cu. ft. GE fridge has had a number of service issues in the ten years it has been working. But beyond that, as I understand, GE is a big pusher of the "Cap & Trade" fiasco that is being foisted upon us by our 'gummint' and 'Fat Albert' Gore as they stand to benefit to a large extent if it gets passed. Global warming is a hoax as has been proven by many scientists. Politicians are NOT scientists!

That's enough reason for me to avoid GE!

Consumer Reports generally likes their stuff. Kenmore, Frigidaire, GE and Whirlpool (Maytag taking a poo right now) rate decent for reliability but each brand will have poor performers and good performers and a top brand for microwave reliability may make unreliable stoves.. If I was going to buy a whole kitchen suite I would at least get an online membership and check out the scores. I'm also buying a house and the seller offers OK stuff but I am finding I can do better taking some time to watch sales, haggling and searching for closeouts and floor models.

Also, Kenmore and Kenmore Elite. GE profile and Frigidaire Gallery or Pro rate decent. I'm probably going with Frigidaire Pro because there is a store nearby with deals and they seem a tad cheaper than Kenmore and co. and still perform well. Also I like the look of the stainless.

The August 09 edition of Consumer Reports rated all large appliances...I would check this out before purchasing any high ticket items. Your local library will carry CR......just ask!

A friend of mine works for Whirlpool Corp. They make numerous brands - whirlpool, jenn-air, kitchenaid, I think roper, & some others I don't remember. He basically told me that many times they are selling the exact same unit, but labeled as 2 different brands. Because some brands are perceived as better, they may actually be at different price points. Do your research so you don't end up paying too much.

BTW, I haven't actually ordered anything from this site, but it seems to have decent reviews, and good prices on major appliances - www.ajmadison.com

when you look at GE remember what nancy regan promoted and just say no. they are junk. had a refrigerator burn up the same day it was delivered . replacement did the same thing. had a washer that made a terrible noise when on. found out they left a ratchet wrench on a socket. had a new micro wave blow up when it was plugged in the replacement lasted one month. i have no ge now.

I got applicances for a new house about a year ago. For the refrigerator, I purchased a Whirlpool "Resource Saver" that was rated exceptional for low energy use, and the measured energy use using a Kil-A-Watt instrument exactly matched the Energy Star numbers. The microwave was a GE Profile, and it works great so far. The stove is also GE, a five-burner, natural-gas fueled model that has worked just fine.

One thing that pulls me toward GE appliances is all the effort GE is putting into research and development for environmentally friendly and energy efficient products. I think they are good quality too, my Mom has a GE fridge that still works today that was passed down to her from her grandmother!

i had all kitchenaid in my new home and never had a problem . had a portable mixer die that was kitchenaid and when i called them. they looked my account and said wow you have all kitchenaid we will send you a new one right now and just put the broken on in the box and we will have ups pick it up . they normally have you send it back and then either fix it or send a new one back. now i am redoing my kitchen and i have bought some frigidaire since it is owned now by electrolux for much less money and we really like the wall oven. kitchenaid wall would not fit since they changed how they measure them . they now measure straight across before the dimension was diagonally.
