This is 10 year old and out of country experience, but in BCN we had a small Carrier branded unit that use a dryer exhaust type hose to exhaust heat. We also had a DeLonghi (I think) "backpack" unit where the condenser and fan mounted ouside with a 2 or 3m umbilical to the unit.

We much preferred the Delonghi. It was quiet and powerful. The Carrier was very low capacity and noisier, but a lot better than nothing in August.

You probably have an adequate power source if it's a finished home. The problem I had with a portable AC was trying to run it on a long extension cord - couldn't get enough power to it.

Haven't tried it but I'm really curious. Does it really cools just like the Window AC?

Hello,
There are many varieties of portable AC, you can get a good quality one for around $400.
But as you are going to use for a specific room, would it not be better to have a window Ac.
It won't be in the way and the price are about the same.
Let us know what you will use.

Got a portable and works great. Couldn't do a regular window ac because I have tall crankouts only in loft so I couldn't seal them with exhaust. I put exhaust hose in central ac return and is working good.

That will work, but isn't very efficient. A through the wall vent would be better. In general, I would suggest trying a duct booster fan first.

I agree, but I was too lazy to cut a hole in my wall. I had a duct booster fan and unfortunately not quite enough. One prob is I only have one return in my loft bedroom near the floor. I may put in a small window higher up on the wall at some point to get some nice ventilation going and hold a window ac unit which is prob cheaper and more efficient.

Delonghi is on sale on amazon right now for $599 dollars, almost half the price! I do think that it is one of the eco-friendly ac!
