Couldn't you just use Sterno?

If you've ever attended a wedding reception, you've seen Sterno burning under the chafing dishes...

electric fireplace offer a contemporary or traditional style to any home.these fireplaces mimic a coal.wood or natural gas burning fireplace and can be used in place of a conventional fireplace.additionally, with realistic fire technology these units can offer you an incredible fireplace surrounding with or without heat..

Gel fireplaces are portable. This means that you can easily move them to the areas that need additional heat. They do not require any sort of vent or chimney, and are considered one of the safer auxiliary heating sources.

I have been thinking about adding one of these to a room in our basement. The basement is zoned, but I leave it off and would like this room warmed up.

It looks like this runs on a standard 16 oz propane tank, non-vented and three heating levels with a max of 6000 btu The unit is normally $200+ on sale right now for $99.

It looks cheaper to run than the gel, maybe not as pretty and you could refill your own propane tanks off a 20 gallon tank to save more.
