wasn't sure which forum to ask this. Just wondering if anybody knows, or has info re energy savings when a hot water recirculation pump is installed on an electric water heater.

No info on actual savings, or whether it is really worth it (payback) but you could put it on a timer so it only operates 5 minutes before you wake up (or whenever you normally find yourself waiting for hot water).

Recirculation pumps are usually a net energy hit, not an energy saver, but they are definitely water-savers. Only demand versions where you hit a switch/button to call the hot water end up saving energy.
If you install one, insulate both the supply & return runs with 5/8" wall closed cell pipe insulation and you'll do OK. (Available online, from Graingers, or plumbing supply houses. Box stores carry only 3/8" wall stuff.) In some states pipe insulation is now required on all hot water distribution plumbing for new construction.

I agree - use the recirc pump most of the time in the winter (where the lost heat isn't really lost) and use a more restricted timer in the spring/summer/fall to minimize heat loss. Insulation is good too.
