 Hi,

I am hoping for ideas on how to build a carport roof that could be removed.  We are completing a spec house and do not have a garage or carport currently, because there is a municipal water easement that prevents us from putting a permenant structure over it.  We came up with an idea that they said they would agree to, if we could construct a roof that could be removed in the event of required maintenance.  The roof would be approximately 21' x 26'.  We are in California and code is that it must be able to withstand 85 mph winds.  Dead load has to be 20lbs. a  sq. ft.

We are thinking of a metal roof, with overlapping seams, that could be bolted to tubular steel supports.  Bolts could be removed and the panels dismantled if needed.   Any ideas about thickness of metal roofing, types of panels or completely different solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Constance

Any aluminum composite panel (SIPs) carport can be dis-assembled and reused

TIP: do not use sealant in connection groove, use roof tape instead.

PS: 85 mph wind load is light

Hi Constance,

How easily does this roof have to come off? Once every ten years? Maybe never? Do you want this to be a solar roof? When you say car port does that mean it does not need to function like a garage and be watertight?

If it is just that it needs to come off in an emergency then this is quite doable.

Please let me know,

Sean Kenny
