I'm interested in stone houses. If the wall contains a cavity with insulation, what type of details are needed to control moisture? Can someone point me towards some more information? I've seen some info about slip forming, but many of those projects don't seem very concerned with modern building science type of moisture management.

Thanks

Are you talking about retrofit insulation & related moisture issues, or are we talking new-construction?

Structural stone, w/cavity or stone-veneer slip form with structural intrior timber/concrete/cmu/other or...???

The basic moisture control issues aren't notably different from other types of masonry wall though. The vented cavity is your primary exterior moisture control. How you insulate & seal the cavity from interior air and water vapor control is the same. Capillary breaks against ground moisture at the foundation will be the same as well. Treat it like (very dense) brick or concrete and it should be fine.

This would be new construction. Still gathering info on stone so am open to all types of structure. Seems like a good way would be to treat the stone as a very thick cladding with an air gap between it and the insulated structure. This would not take direct advantage of the thermal mas of the stone, but a FPSF slab and some interior stonework should provide plenty of thermal mass.

The stone would have a good amount of concrete and rebar.  It would be nice to tie the stone to the rest of the structure to reinforce the structure. Not sure how to do that without creating thermal bridges.

I'm particularly interested in details around windows and doors.

Thanks
