We now have an opportunity to rebuild our lodge/home, only the exterior shell remains.
Our starting point from the outside in is , wood log siding, no house wrap and than OSB. The walls are 2x6 construction, roof rafters are 14" I beams and the basement is cement block with no exterior foam or insulation. The cement walls are painted with Bins paint.
It has been recomended that 2" foam be placed in the Ibeams, edges sealed with spray foam, followed by R38 fiberglass bats than sheetrock. For the walls 1" of spary foam and fiberglass bats and sheetrock.
Given no house wrap or felt paper, would like help understanding where the vapor barier belongs for walls and roof and what would be a good goal for R value.
Thank you everyone for your help and insight.
John

Where the vapor barrier needs to be depends on your location. Where are you located? |

1" of 2# foam is hard to spray, two inches is common with high dense glass to follow, no vapor barrier. Same for framed basement walls, and inch of clearance so foam fills the gap. How will you heat it? |

Thank you BadgerBoiler
May not be able to find someone to put in high dense glass. How much performance will I loose with bats? Will one inch of the spary foam or foam boad act as a vapor barier? Could I use foam boards and seal the edges on the walls, like the ceiling, instead of the spray foam?
The existing heat is off peak electric. |
