Hi all, I'm seeing a fairly new (to me) method for utilizing the structural sheathing as the vapor barrier in cold climates by putting 3/4 OSB on the interior of the wall vs the exterior and then sealing joints with sealing tape. I like this idea because it allows for use of rockwool exterior panels directly fastened to studs on the exterior allowing the wall to breath to the outside and this rockwool also provides thermal break for studs. Below is my idea of a wall. Please give me your critique. Materials are listed from interior to exterior 1. 1/2" sheetrock 2. Furring strips to provide a wire chase (possibly insulated) 3. 3/4" OSB (seams sealed with tape) 4. 2x4's 16"oc (insulated with fiberglass batts) 5. 1.5" rockwool sheathing 6. Tar paper 7. 3/4" rain screen furring strips 8. Siding Is this overkill or perhaps a good design to keep walls dry and efficient?

Not a big fan of walls with no exterior sheathing.
Because if you have a failure in your air barrier ANYWHERE, and your entire wall becomes a giant air filter.
And with that air comes MOISTURE.
Also, because, once compromised, you have wind pushing on the back of your inner wall surface and you'll start popping nails/screws. And you begin slowly compromising the structure's racking strength.
