With floating slab construction in MN would it be better to do the 4' perimeter R-10 rigid insulation vertically or horizontal?

I thought that horizontal insulation is primarily for shallow foundations in cold areas.

There is also benefit for a floating slab to keep the floor warmer and prevent frost heaving on the edge of the floor. We are wondering if there is an orientation that is better.
