I live in Iowa and I have 2x6 framing, with .5" OSB, 1" R-board, and tyvek. The framer didn't do an I-cut on the tyvek. Instead he cut out around the openings, so there's no extra to "fold in."

I found this method here for installing a window with foam sheathing on a wood frame wall:

http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy05osti/37583.pdf

Would this be a good method to use on my house, since the tyvek is cut out, I can use flashing to take the tyvek/foam, then install the window, then flash over the flange.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Also, the basemend is ICF, and I was wondering if I should tape the bottom of the tyvek to the ICF foam all around the house.

Thanks

You dont need any extra to fold onto the trimmer studs, and the top and bottom is cut where it should be. If it keeps you up at night integrate strips of tyvek into the sides, properly lapped to create new "wings" you can fold against the trimmer studs.

Most window manufacturers want solid backing behind flanges, not foam and may deny any claim based on improper installation. I remove foam and install plywood or osb strips in its place to comply with manufacturers install requirements.

Thanks green tree. No, I don't need to have the extra wings. It's just that every detail of installation I have ever seen has the I-cut. Never seen it without it, so I was just making sure it was all right. Also, I called the window manufacturer and explained about the OSB and foam sheathing, and they approve their windows installed over the foam, so I was ok there.
