Hi

I am new to the forum and would appreciate any information, links or advice.
I have a large barn in which the roof and part of a wall have caved in and the insurance company have currently refused to pay (ongoing)
Thus I have little funds to make it safe and reconstruct. So I am considering strawabale because of cost and I find the prospect exciting.
I need to support a large A frame which is still up and construct a new wall forming an extension onto the house.
Th A frame is about 7 metres up and I would like to support this with a strawbale wall so my first question is the best technique to employ in construction. Also has anyone any experience of linking a new bale wall into an existing ragsstone wall. This existing wall is limestone and lime pointed.

Thanks for any input.

In most instances you have to think of the straw bale walls simply as insulation. For load bearing walls you still need some sort of framing support.
Sometimes you can get away with just the bale support, but the system must be able to tolerate large movement.
I strongly suggest hiring a structural engineer to look at these walls and the entire framing system. As a matter of fact it is a code requirement.

Pick any two.
