Thanks to everyone for there previous help on our Malta build.  I am now looking for further advice/input in relation to the best options for our roof terrace surface.  We have membrane and insulation on the roof slab  and will be using the roof for an entertaining area so would like something attractive and comfortable to walk on.  We are not keen on using the green roof idea as we dont think it will suit the style of the build but do want to deflect as much of the heat as possible.  Can any one suggest cost effective tiles or paint or other materials? Other than just using a light coloured tile which I understand does not have the same effectiveness at all. They would need to be not too 'cutting edge' as Malta is not an energy efficiency forerunner...
thanks again

I agree that any light colored material will work.  One of the downsides of a highly reflective material is glare.  Depending on your roofing solution, you may need ballast to hold everything down.  If that is the case, I would use precast pavers at 5 cm or so thickness.

I want to see some pix when you are done!
