I've heard different things about strapping before putting up Hardie siding just wondering what is the best way. I've got about 3000 sq feet to do and I've been told that the siding can go right on the wall as is but I've also read that there must be some wood strapping to allow air space between the two as well give you something to nail into. I figure ring shank nails should hold sufficiently into the Magboard while regular nails pull to easily.

Also wondering about window casings on the exterior. If I have to strap then I guess I'll have to use thicker trim so the frames sit proud of the siding. Not sure how thick the siding would be but I don't want it past the window trim, or any for that matter.

 Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sean
