I am considering building a SABS home and will be interviewing a contractor soon.  He has attended the training at Strata and been licensed or certified by StrataUs.  Has anyone else used a Strata licensed contractor and what does that mean?  As a homeowner, what can I expect from Strata in regards to help and warranties?  There are very few people in my state licensed by Strata and I want to make sure I will have the help I need as I do not have an architect.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

One of the SABS people posted here in another SABS thread. His name is Greg. See if he can weigh in. I think more than a few here are interested but haven't had many updates.

good luck and keep us posted.

NYSid,

Since StrataUS does the engineering I do not believe you will need an architect if you already have a design ready to be built conventionally.  Since Strata requires certain items to be purchased from them you will need to submit plans for their engineering and pricing.  Be sure to read very carefully ESR-1638 that you will find on their web site.  That will give you a feel for what is involved using the Strata system.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I too want to build a SABS house, but am concerned with some things about them. Further, I am awaiting to see what is going on with the warranty issue in New Mexico.

Hi...just learned about this site...and that there was interest in building a SABS house.BE CAREFULL. I own the house in Santa Fe, New Mexico and it is a disaster. The licensed contractor bastardized the SABS formula and the entire system has failed. Strata will help...for more money. and this has been a VERY expensive house. hard to believe they position SABS as less expensive than regular building. I have paid for a SABS house I do not have. I cannot get a certificate of occupancy...nor can I sell it in the horrific condition it is in. Just know Strata will not help if you get into trouble.

Let us post our comments about Beth's problem with SABS under the thread started by French Bunny (Beth).  See "BE VERY WARY OF SABS".  By doing this we will not hijack this thread.

Thank you for listening to my situation....I am beyond my wits end...and although I may go down in SABS flames, I don't want anyone else to. I thinf my wonderful architect, Cindy Urban has posted an assessment from her point of view...to add to everyone's grasp of caution....when considering building with SABS...........We all need to help one other.
