Hi,

I am a General Contractor and Consultant looking at structural solutions for fully insulated, very light-weight custom home construction on a large project in Baja Sur, Mexico. I have been looking at GFRC spray applied skin over polystyrene block panels as one possible solution. This looks like an excellent system for our needs, but most information I am finding leads back directly to Strata US and their SABS system. I will be speaking with Strata soon, but I would appreciate any references to other suppliers of GFRC material and equipment. Strata provides training and certification (apparently), as well as structural design... do you know of any other companies that provide training and/or engineering?

Gracias,
Bill Doyle

Bill,

I guess you know about the Tridipanel system.  I used this system when it was called InSteel.

Hi Alton........did you ever find a reply to your question of which system was being referenced? I have replied to Bill regarding Strata/SABS and my architect will be in touch with him, too............the best, Beth - with the failed SABS house in Santa Fe

Hi Bill....did you talk with Strata? I would love to know whom you spoke with. After the disaster with my house - I heard from Gregg Martin that they changed some procedures....to protect themselves!! My house continues to crumble and Strata has nothing to say. BE CAREFUL, please. If anything goes wrong they will not be there for you. Beth in Santa Fe

I have sent them 2 e-mails hoping for a written response. I will call them this week to see if I can get additional information.  I hope to speak with the people at SABS, but if anyone knows of any other suppliers of pre-mix GFRC systems I would be very interested. As a note of interest, I have found several very informative technical papers on GFRC structural criteria and mix designs. I suspect I can come up with a mix every bit as good as SABS. If they don't want to provide information, that is what I will do.

My opinion - use foam + steel mesh + PVA (not glass) fiber reinforced high strength concrete. And use shotcrete vs a trowel (less water, better compaction).
