Can you install 2" exterior foam board from the footing right up the roof line? I know you can do the foundation walls, and of course the exterior sheathing, but what about a complete seal to cover the exposed basement wall and rim joist also? How would you make the transition on top of the foam from siding to basement stucco finish? Not only in material and method, but also in the plane of the siding to the plane of the basement?
I was thinking of 2" foam board everywhere, and then use the 1" board with the furring channels on top of the 2" on the first floor level (and not the basement). I would use thicker furring strips to create a rainscreen, and this in addition to the extra 1" foam board would have the siding 2" or more off the plane of the basement wall. If anyone can follow this I am open to suggestion. Does this make sense? How do you "seal" the overhanging bottom of the foam boards? Should I set the first floor walls back (towards interior) an 1" or so to make the final finish more even with the basement?
Thanks.
