From a performance per pound point of view packing the stuff in on human-mules you can cut 4' or 5' rolls of the reflectorized bubble-pack stuff. It's available in 48" or 60" rolls as long as 125', which would give you four 30-footers. (Reflectix is one vendor, there are others. Product numbers that start with "HVBP" are the bubble-pack type- See: http://www.reflectixinc.com/basepage.asp?Page=Double+Reflective+Insulation&pageIndex=622 ) It's performance is not really great- pretty useless in performance-building applications, but the air-tightness of tents isn't good enough to warrant a very high R-value. An R100 wind-tunnel isn't exactly going to outperform an R2 wind tunnel by very much on retaining heat. Bubble-pack beats single-layer radiant barrier on performance, but don't expect to get more than about R2 performance out of it unless you can trap air-films on both sides rather than having it in contact with the tent fabric. If these are semi-permanent camps and you have mechanized transport, an inch of 1.5lb closed cell foam like FrothPak sprayed on the exterior of tents is very air tight R6-7, but you don't want to use it with gas-lamps or around open flames. |
