SOO... 8" Open cell spray foam for Warm roof. Last night, Wife wakes me up with loud noise in attic... WTF thats loud.. Tonight, I go and inspect and this is what I've found..(See attached picture)

I'll figure out how to get it out.. but It found its way into the soffit and buried itself.. Be wary of ANY open spray foam. Now the fun is to get it out with out falling off the ladder.. But there is NO foam bits anywhere! WTF is it eating it??

I guess there is first time for everything. How on earth did it tunnel through there and like you said, where did the foam go?

What do you have for a soffit? How would a bird (at least that's what it looks like) have gone through the wood board? I've seen rodents gnaw through 2x4's inside walls and gnaw through plywood sheathing but never a bird.

I've read of mice & voles gnawing out cozy hard-shell nests into 2lb foam too- none of it is completely immune to critter-infestation.

I had a squirrel gnaw an entrance through 2" of 1.5lb XPS last year to gain access to the top of a cellulose-insulated stud bay where he was stashing food. But the XPS was the easy part- the 7/8" plank sheathing had to have been harder chewing. I filled the whole thing, nest & all with high-expansion gap-filler can foam (reinforced with 1/2" mesh hardware cloth) after successfully evicting the beast from the garage entirely and removing the stash of acorns & spruce cones.

We have been having trouble with woodpeckers making huge holes in our T1-11 siding on our barn. It is amazing what they can get through.
